Difference between analog and digital communication .

Signal can either be analog or digital. An analog signal is a continuous wave form, that changes smoothly overtime. as the waveform moves from value A to value B , it passes through and includes an infinite number of values along its path .
 For Example: HUMAN VOICE
A digital signal is a discrete. It can have only limited number of defined values , often as simple as 1 and 0 .
The transition of a digital signal from value to value is instantaneous.
For Example: light being switched on and off .

Fig. Showing Analog signal VS Digital signal

ANALOG SIGNAL
DIGITAL SIGNAL

Analog signal is a continuous signal
Digital signal is are discrete time signal.
Denoted by sine wave
Denoted by Square waves
Uses Continuous range of values to represent information
Uses discrete or discontinuous values to represent information
For Example: Human voice in air, analog electronic device
For Example : Computers,CD’s,DVD’s,and other Digital electronic devices.
It is subjective to deterioration by noise during transmission
It can be noise immune without deterioration during transmission
Analog hardware is not flexible
Digital hardware is flexible in implementation
Application – thermometer
Application – PC’s , PDA’s
Stores in the form of wave signal
Stored in the form of binary bit.
Low cost and portable
Cost is high and not easily portable
Analog instrument draws large power
Digital instrument draws less power
